I have been a little lost on where to start this blog. So much has happened in the last few weeks it has been hard not to write about EVERYTHING and probably bore you all to tears. I had two choices; picking a health related subject or share a little bit of Func’s history… Hmm ..

As it is with all good intentions I have mulled over this for the past few days until I have come up with the answer. Start at the ‘beginning’ and hopefully by sharing this story you will have a better understanding of what we are trying to achieve for you.

Our adventure began with four friends sitting down one day and making the decision to turn our dreams into a reality.  As with all good ideas once we put it out there and decided to make it ‘official’  ( to paint the picture I believe we were drinking coffee and probably eating something yummy) we were immediately faced with a list of things that needed to be done… And let me tell you it was A BIG list!

This pile of things to do honestly felt like it went on forever ( in fact it is still ongoing..!) So I guess kinda like this blog I decided to start at the beginning…

In this case it was the venue.

Putting Brendon’s years of real estate experience to good use he immediately went about finding us the ‘perfect’ place. We could not believe how LUCKY we were to find our warehouse. You guys now know it as Func HQ.

It is a strange feeling when things start coming together. Yes ‘butterflies’ exist, also so does the gut feeling of ‘wow this feels right’ and then to

burst the little perfect bubble you are in, the next emotion is “holy sh*t’ we are really doing this!’

In between a humongous pile of never ending contracts and an equally never ending job of painting we discovered that we have been truly blessed to have had many willing hands that have lent a never ending shoulder to lean on.  We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU to:

  • Nathan Helberg ( the creator of Zuu) for inspiring us to begin this  journey. Teaching us the importance of culture and lending us his work so we can share it with you
  • Mathew and Nicola Wilkins for all the time you have spent helping us turn Func into Func.
  • Nathan Partridge for also helping with the fit out and giving us your time

We also want to say Thank You to every one of you that have taken time out to come visit us in January. We truly are humbled that so many of you have come to us with open minds to experience something a little different.

 Why we began this Journey

Well, we really want to change the way people feel about health and fitness. Yes this is a little cliché and probably something I’m sure many of you hear each day. Thanks to the endless media traffic promising ‘quick fixes’. And the constant stream of information that is available to us mostly PROMISING that if you follow this program or that program you will get the body you desire (which for 99.9% of girls is the latest bikini clad swimwear model on the front of a magazine) GUESS WHAT…? It’s not going to happen (unless somehow you do posses the genes of Miranda Kerr or Channing Tatum for the boys – and lucky you if you do!)

Instead we wanted to look at SIMPLIFYING things. Simplify the industry into something bite size and not over complicate what our bodies were designed to do

Sorry, I’m not going to tell you that there is a quick fix. Actually I am lying. There are heaps of quick fixes but how long do they last? Or how much do you have to NOT EAT for it to work?

Our goal, our big idea, our DREAM is to INSPIRE you all to be HEALTHY. Not complicated is it? Healthy in the mind, the body, the spirit. Designing classes around ‘Functional Movement’ and throwing in as much nutrition info as we can…

So what is FUNCtional Movement or Training?

The benefits of functional training

The benefits of functional training are huge. On short, you can pretty much achieve anything you want when training functionally. By doing the right exercises, training variables and load for your goals, the vast majority of the major health and fitness goals can be achieved.

You can train for:

  • Strength
  • Power
  • Speed
  • Flexibility and range of motion
  • Muscular endurance
  • Cardio vascular fitness

The phrase “It’s you against you” which I’m sure you all recognise now, was born from the mutual felling that YOU are the only version of yourself that you have. Comparing your fitness, abilities, strength, looks to anyone else is pointless. It is “You against you’ when you are alone and are deciding whether to have that extra chocolate ( or five..!) It is “you against you” when you are hurting in a work-out but make the decision to power through.

We are here to help you understand that RESULTS are from constant hard work, commitment and being true to yourself.

So that’s the BIG DREAM…!

As I mentioned to you before we are humbled, honoured and super happy that so many of you are now part of this journey and the dream…
